COASTAL SKIPPER

This course will involve you in skippering coastal passages by day and night. You will develop a better understanding of weather, boat safety in longer passages and boat handling in more challenging conditions.

Cost: 850€ per person

Whats Included?

  • Five days of teaching with accommodation

  • Tuition from an experienced Yachtmaster Instructor

​

  • Light weight waterproof jacket – just in case of the odd wave;

​

  • Food and drinks on board – breakfast, lunch and a glass of wine, or a beer after a days sailing;

​

  • All mooring fees, gas and diesel 

 

​

  • Freshly laundered sheets, duvets, pillows and towels 

​

Notes: We do not include: flights, travel insurance or evening meals ashore.

Itinerary

During this course you will get both of the >60 miles, required passages and other coastal passages as skipper.

After this course you will be able to plan a coastal passage with night sailing, set sails and trim them for different conditions, organize your crew and a watch system, prepare for anchoring and get set for mooring inside the marina in windy conditions. Overall it will be challenging.

Syllabus

- Passage planning  for overnight trips

- Preparation for sea on coastal passages

- Pilotage in and out during night

- Passage making and ability as skipper -Yacht handling under power & sail in windier conditions and moderate sea state -Adverse weather conditions

-Emergency situations

- Safety on longer passages

- Basic boat repairs at sea

Notes

It is recommended to have the theory knowledge up to the RYA Coastal Skipper Shorebased course to make the most out of this experience. It will support most of the things you're required to do as you become Yachtmaster.  After this course you can progress towards the Yachtmaster exams or do the preparation / mile building weeks to get more experience.
