Sail Trim & Race Training

This 6 day course will really help you hone your sailing skills – and teach you how to get the most out of your yacht, start anticipating the next move and give you some racing edge.  Suitable for those sailors who have done some sailing and want to learn more about sail trim as well as both inshore and offshore racers.

Throughout the week you will get to rotate roles to experience the different positions and how they all work together.  There will be a big emphasis on getting the most out of your yacht, sail trim, race focus and the mindset required to win.

Each morning starts with a theory session before heading out to sea to put into practice what you have just covered!  The day closes with an evening debrief.

By the end of the course you will feel more confident as a crew member – knowing how to handle you sails, as well as capable of a winning race performance.

During the course we plan to cover:

  • Perfecting spinnaker hoists and drops and mark roundings
  • Gybing with a spinnaker
  • Man-over-board with light sails
  • Upwind sail trim for speed and height after tacking/rounding
  • Establishing line bias, use of transits and starting procedures
  • Race focus and performance mindset
  • Sail selection for point of sail, wind speed and sea conditions
  • Weight distribution of the boat for speed in different weather conditions
  • Key racing rules and strategy and race preparation
  • Weather

There is so much to learn that may people come back and do the course again!

After completing this course why not put your new skills into practice by competing with us in the Fastnet,  Les Voiles de St Tropez, Regatta Copa del Rey or the Rolex Middle Sea race
